21 Braided Hair Looks

1 – Lattice Braided Combo

We know these braided hair looks appear super complicated, but once you break them down into more manageable (and understandable) chunks, and then piece them all together, things are much less complicated. This lattice braided combo is really pretty,. We can’t help but think it would make for great bridesmaid hair, especially with a pretty addition of fresh flowers. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

2 – Lace Boho Tieback

If you’re having a hard time getting to grips with these braid hairstyles, ask a friend if you can practice on their hair. Alternatively, if you have kids (daughters), bribe them with candy to sit still for long enough for you to braid theirs.

We found it much easier when we did the braids on someone else’s head before doing them on our own. We’re not sure why that is, but it’s a clever little trick to try if you’re trying and failing.

3 – Simple Fishtail Fuss

When you play with your braided hair looks a little, ruffle them up if you like, you can achieve different looks. This one here, for example, is just a simple fishtail braid, but with the addition of some fuss. That’s what we like to call it.

Once you’ve done your fishtail braid, use your fingers to pull some strands loose and free, ruffle it up, giving it a more distressed and boho vibe, than a polished and sleek one. It’s a great look for dirty hair, that’s all we’re saying.

4 – French Braid Low Bun

Never underestimate the power of a braid. It can look sassy and sexy, Lara Croft-esque, or you can double them up like Kim Kardashian. You could add flowers and sprigs of colour or greenery for wedding day hair, and even bows and other accessories for cute day-to-day hair.

Alternatively, you could get creative and come up with a look that would be suitable for any occasion, just like this gorgeous braided hairstyle.

5 – Fishtail Ribbon Chain Link Braid

It looks much more complicated than it really is, but there is something truly beautiful about braided hair looks just like this one, and you can match the ribbon you use running through the centre of it to any outfit. This means you can get patriotic, festive, or even Halloweeny if you wanted to. Don’t you just love a good braided hairstyle that’s totally versatile at the same time?

Once you’ve got this one nailed, it should only take you around fifteen to twenty minutes on media to long-length hair, and it’s one that the kids will definitely love. Imagine sending them to school with ease ribboned beauties in their hair?

10 – Multi-Braided Hair Looks

When you have wet hair, don’t automatically rush for your hair straighteners or curling irons. Instead, reach for a comb, some elastic so, and your mirror. Using heated styling tools, just like your hair dryer, for example, is the quickest way to dry your hair out, and this is definitely the case for when you have coloured or treated hair. Braids give you a perfect alternative – no heated styling tools necessary.

This braided look is awesome for non-dryer days, and you could even get away with it on dirty hair. Over-washing your locks is just as bad as over-styling them, you know …

11 – Rope Twist Hairstyle

A simple change of braid, from a French to a rope twist, for example, can give an old style a new lease of life with nothing else needed. If you’re bored of using the old braids, learn a new one (with the help of these fabulous Instagrammers) and try something new.

13 – Rope Braid & Low Pony

There’s that rope braiding again. Clearly, it’s a braided look that you’re going to want to learn soon. Using braids to spice up a low ponytail is a great trick, and could give you a few minutes in bed in the morning too. Everyone knows braids work out better on dirty hair. Don’t get up so early and don’t wash it. Perfect!

16 – Large & Winding Braided Updo

Braid everything you have and then wind it all together into this pretty bun look if you want something that could easily take you from day to night in no time at all. When it’s time to leave the office, simply release the braid and give you hair a shake with your head upside down. You’ll have glorious post-braided waves that’ll totally be worth it.

17 – Half Up Fishtail French Braid

Fishtail braids are really simple to do, just using four strains rather than the three that you would use in a French braid look. Perform two fishtail braids along either side of the head and bring them together in the back for a cute half up, half down style that can be worn for day or night.

18 – Stacked & Braided Hair Looks

Multiple braids are totally a cool thing. This look — stacked and braided — is perfect for when you need to bring a bohemian vibe to the occasion. Go nuts and add as many fishtails as you dare. Or just add a few, here and there, to add some texture and features.

19 – Inverted Fishtail Hawk into Split Fishtail Braid

Inverted braids, also known as Dutch braids, are generally considered to be trendier and edgier than your regular, run-of-the-mill braided hair looks. With this kind of braid, the hair is placed under the main bulk of the braid, rather than over the top of it, as you would with the regular, non-inverted styles.

20 – Waterfall Side-Swept Braid

We love the way that curls have been used with this beautiful waterfall side-swept braid. You’ll want to create the curl before you get hands-on with the braided part of the look.

These braided hair looks are much easier achieved on wet or dirty hair. If you have the time, wash your hair in the shower, towel dry it a little, and then leave it until it is still damp before twisting and turning your look together. It’ll hold better, and you’ll also suffer from fewer of those flyaway hairs if the sleek and clean look is the one you’re going for.

For when you want maximum impact, use more than one type of braid. This look has both French and fishtail braids to give different textures and styles. It shouldn’t work, but as you can see, it clearly does work. We all have hair envy.
